19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after that period of the previous year.

Success also signifies he has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

He defended four early-game break points in a close deciding set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
